FAQs

What is Model United Nations?

Model United Nations is a unique style of debate, simulating the discussions in the real UN. Generally, individuals (delegates) represent a selected country, debating a global topic with fellow countries. At the end of the conference, delegates agreed on a mutually satisfactory solution, taking into account varied perspectives.

MUN is an excellent opportunity to not only learn public speaking, but also research, compromise, and critical thinking.

For more details you can visit www.un.org/en/mun, or contact our staff.

What does SCVMUN offer?

Here at Santa Teresa High School, we offer two days of exciting debate, focusing on teaching participants valuable MUN skills. At SCVMUN, we familiarize delegates with professional, higher level debate by inviting college chairs to moderate, and help all delegates reach the rigorous standards.

How should I prepare for a conference?

Preparation is just as important to learning as the debate itself! Begin by reading your background guide and understanding your topic. Ideally, you should have your position paper finished well before our deadline, and continue researching until the day of the conference. If you follow the position paper guidelines, you should have a strong knowledge foundation. Be sure to email your chairs with any questions.
